Providing grants to champion sustainable energy in the mountains
Water and electricity, two things most of us take for granted. But in many rural mountain communities in Nepal sustainable energy solutions are sorely needed. These small communities need energy solutions that provide safe water and sustainable electricity solutions, which also protect the fragile mountain eco-systems.
The Nimsdai Foundation teamed up with innovative renewable energy company, Achelous Energy, to give them a grant to support their new hydrokinetic project in Western Nepal. This innovative project will bring 24/7 renewable electricity to two off-grid communities in the area, helping over 100 households and two schools, for the very first time. Alongside the delivery of electrical generation and transmission infrastructure, the project also provides the village with irrigation systems that will be fed by pumps.
The new system will kickstart the villages’ agricultural processes, letting villagers grow vegetables for themselves, their families and to sell at local markets - generating income and letting them live better lives.
