Supporting mountain communities in their time of greatest need.

Through the bad times and the good

It’s no exaggeration to say that the vast majority of Himalayan climbing expeditions wouldn’t be able to operate without the support of local communities. Yet all too often, when the worst happens, these communities are left to deal with the consequences themselves.

Recent years have seen a whole range of misfortunes affecting the people of Northern Pakistan and Nepal, from devastating earthquakes, fatal avalanches on the mountain and the dramatic loss of income caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic to the devastating floods that hit Pakistan in 2022.

Our aim is to help not only those who have worked with us, but everyone involved in this sector and suffering either due to the pandemic or any natural disasters.

The Nimsdai Foundation is committed to supporting the indigenous people of the mountains during both the good and bad times.

The Foundation’s disaster relief fund is dedicated to providing both financial and material assistance - in the form of grants, sponsorship and/or direct provision - to people in Himalayan communities in times of extreme and unforeseen hardship.

Nimsdai’s success to date has relied, to a large extent, on the support of these communities. They are his friends, climbing partners, brothers and sisters. The Nimsdai Foundation disaster relief fund is aimed at ensuring that the same, unwavering support is reciprocated, whenever it’s needed the most.

Being an area that relies on tourism, the Himalayan communities were hit hard, but thanks to the generous donations of our supporters, we were able to work with contacts on the ground to supply aid where it was most needed.

2022: Devastating and unprecedented monsoon rains discriminated crops, livelihoods and homes in Pakistan across the summer and autumn of 2022. Thousands were displaced and cut off in remote communities. In response to this crisis, the Nimsdai Foundation worked with organisations and agencies on the ground to send £50k of aid to the communities in the northern mountain regions of Kunis and Balgar. Working with contacts in-country the Foundation was able to provide blankets and food to rural communities hit by flooding. Thanks to the generosity of donations to the foundation, an additional £20K was added on top of this total to help the communities as they began to rebuild.
