Students learn the basics of mountaineering, guiding and sustainability
Himalayan Horizons, is a joint educational initiative by Elite Exped and the Nimsdai Foundation, aimed at inspiring the next generation of Nepalese youth. Through exciting extracurricular activities, local children from Xavier International School in Kathmandu get to explore the wonders of mountain environments, learning about topography, environmental stewardship, essential equipment, nutrition, and leadership skills.
From the practicalities of how to set up tents, how to use mountaineering gear and how to navigate, learning about sustainable tourism and how to be an inspiring leader, the programme is aiming to inspire young people. Many young people in Nepal are moving to the cities and do not see a future in the mountaineering space; Himalayan Horizons aims to show the opportunities available for future mountain leaders.
