Nimsdai Purja - Legendary Mountaineer & Our Founder

Losing Nims is something that is incredibly difficult to put into words.

Like so many others around the world, we are heartbroken. He wasn't just the Founder of the Nimsdai Foundation; he was the heart and soul of it. He was the person who inspired us every single day to believe that we could truly redefine what is possible.

We want to thank every person around the world who has taken the time to send messages of love, kindness, and support. Your words have brought comfort during our darkest days and have reminded us just how many lives Nims touched across the world.

The world knew Nims as the extraordinary mountaineer who achieved what many believed could never be done. We had the privilege of knowing the person behind those achievements.  A man who brought energy into every room, inspiring everyone around him.   

Working alongside Nims was demanding, inspiring and immensely rewarding. He expected the very best from everyone as he believed that the impossible was simply a challenge waiting to be overcome. 

Most charities are founded with a single charitable purpose. In true Nims style, the Nimsdai Foundation was built on four: Education, Environment, Inspiring Others and Disaster Relief. His ambition was never small, because he believed the need was too great for small ambitions.

Through his relentless passion and determination, together we have built a new Porter House in Lobuche to support the mountain community that meant so much to him; created rehabilitative expeditions that have helped veterans rebuild confidence and purpose; provided educational opportunities for children in some of the world's most remote communities; removed waste from some of the highest mountains on Earth; and supported families affected by devastating floods and earthquakes across Nepal and Pakistan.

Nims poured his heart into every project we did, and he took immense pride in seeing the impact of the work his Foundation had on the mountain communities and the environment.  

In our grief, we are reminded of the extraordinary legacy he leaves behind, the countless lives he changed, and the belief he gave so many people that they were capable of far more than they ever imagined.

We are immensely proud of everything we achieved together, and we remain committed to ensuring that our mission ‘to redefine what is possible continues’

During this difficult time, our thoughts and those of everyone at the Foundation remain with the families, friends, and loved ones of all those who so tragically lost their lives on Broad Peak.

Through your vision, determination and generosity, you changed lives, not only on the world's highest mountains, but in villages across Nepal and in the hearts of veterans, porters, children and countless others who found hope because you cared.

Your absence leaves a space that can never be filled, but your legacy will never fade.

We will keep supporting the communities you loved, standing beside those who need us most, and carrying forward the values that defined your life and an unwavering belief that together we can achieve extraordinary things.
