Nepal earthquake 2023
In November 2023 Nepal was hit by a deadly earthquake, the second of its kind in as many months - BBC News
On November 4th at least 128 people were killed when a magnitude 5.7 earthquake hit the western area of Jajarkot, destroying homes and businesses. The tremors were felt as far away as India’s capital, New Delhi.
This was the second large earthquake to hit the mountainous area. A 6.3 magnitude earthquake hit the far western Nepal district of Bajhang on October 3rd, with a further 5.3 magnitude aftershock hitting the region the following day. It was estimated that 36,250 people from over 7,250 families were affected by the Bajhang earthquake alone.
Thousands lost their homes and livelihoods in some of the worst earthquakes to hit Nepal since the deadly 2015 quake.
The scale of the devastation was felt by everyone, but more so by those living in remote locations.
The Nimsdai Foundation called upon its supporters to help raise the essential funds to provide immediate aid to those affected as well as help rebuild their homes and lives. The immediate need was to provide aid in the form of warm blankets and shelter to help families left homeless and forced to live in the open due to recurring aftershocks. With winter drawing in on these mountainous regions, we needed to act fast to keep families safe. The aid provided included:
- 400 blankets
- 400 food parcels
- Fresh water
- Emergency shelter kits, including stoves, cooking equipment and tarpaulin.
